Tolling of Statutes of Limitation

Statutes of Limitation

A statute of limitations sets a limit of the maximum amount of time after a wrong occurs in which a person harmed by that wrong may file a lawsuit. These limitations periods can be suspended ("tolled") for certain reasons, including when the person harmed is a minor child or is not mentally capable of understanding that he or she has been harmed.

No general Connecticut provisions tolling the statute of limitations for minor children or the mentally incompetent were located. However, with respect to probate proceedings, which are generally subject to a 10-year statute of limitations, when any minor is interested, one year shall be allowed after the minor attains the age of majority to take out administration or to cause a will to be proved.
