Medicare-Medicaid Pay-Down of Assets
State law and regulations impose income and asset limits on persons applying for Medicaid.
An individual is ineligible for Medicaid if his or her resources exceed $2,000 or $3,000 for a couple.
A person receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is deemed eligible for Medicaid. A person in long-term care is eligible for Medicaid if his or her monthly income does not exceed $2,901.
A person who has, or whose spouse has, transferred assets and received less than the fair market value for that asset within a 36-month period prior to receiving assistance may be deemed ineligible. A person must report transfers of assets, and the Medicaid Administration will evaluate all such transfers.
